Minutes before Cebu Pacific Flight 5J-971 skidded from the runway at Davao Airport Terminal on Sunday evening, another plane from CEBUPAC swerved after touchdown striking the runway lights. Sources in the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) the first plane, a turboprop also possessed by Cebu Pacific Air, hit two runway lights.
Minutes later, Flight 5J-971, an Airbus A320-200, arrived in heavy rain, veered from the centerline, and fell nose first right into a ditch. CAAP sources stated the turboprop plane, which originated from Cagayan p Oro City, entered a skid around the rain-drenched runway due to strong winds.
A flight schedule publish on Cebu Pacific’s website shows the daily Flight 5J-215, operated having a turboprop plane, comes to Davao City at 6 at night. The Airbus Flight 5J-971 touched lower at 7:10 p.m. Sunday.
CAAP sources stated they discovered the incident including the turboprop plane only throughout the inspection from the runway on Monday. The plane’s wheels were broken throughout the incident, another source stated.
The broken runway lights were immediately changed, however the skid marks from the plane’s wheels continued to be, showing what had happened. Had the incident been correctly reported, it might have assisted if authorities and aircraft pilots informed concerning the earlier plane problem.
